Silver Ferns twins Kate and Georgia Heffernan have qualified for domestic netball grand finals on the same weekend, playing simultaneously across the Tasman.

Georgia's Southern Steel defeated Mainland Tactix 60-54 in an elimination final at ILT Stadium in Invercargill on Sunday, securing their first grand final berth since 2018. At the same time, Kate's Adelaide Thunderbirds won their major semifinal against Melbourne Vixens, earning hosting rights for the Suncorp Super Netball grand final on 4 July.

The twins' parents watched Georgia's match in person while following Kate's game on their phone. "Our parents and family were in the stand at my game in Invercargill, while they had Kate's game playing on their phone," Steel vice-captain Georgia said.

The ANZ Premiership final will be held on Saturday with Northern Mystics hosting Southern Steel in Auckland.

Both sisters received selection for next month's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Their mother Annette and aunt Maxine played for New Zealand in the 1980s, becoming the first sister combination to represent the Silver Ferns at international level.

"It was just such an exciting moment for our family for both of us to be named. Given the huge Silver Ferns history that runs in our family as well," Georgia said.

Kate signed her first Suncorp Super Netball contract this year after previously captaining the Steel.
