World No.2 Paul Coll has claimed his ninth national squash championship, defeating 19-year-old Ollie Dunbar in straight games at the tournament in Tauranga.

The 34-year-old won the men's final 11-7, 11-4, 11-4 after Dunbar, from Wellington, showed promise early before Coll took control.

In the women's final, Hawke's Bay's Jena Gregory rallied from a game down to beat top seed Ella Lash and secure her first national title. After losing the opening game 11-8, the 22-year-old fought back to win 11-8, 11-9, 11-7.

"This means so much to me. I've had a pretty rough year this year, so to be able to get this title is incredible and so special to me," Gregory said.

The victory was particularly for Gregory, who had finished third twice at previous national championships. "I've come third twice, so it's pretty amazing," she said.

Freddie Jameson took third place in the men's division, while Shelley Kitchen finished third in the women's.
