Five of eight New Zealand rowing crews have progressed to A Finals or semi-finals at the World Cup season opener in Seville.

World champions Ben Taylor and Oliver Welch won their men's pair heat to reach the semi-finals, clocking 6 minutes 36.39 seconds—the quickest across all three heats. "Good start for us, good to blow the lungs out a little bit," Welch said.

A women's coxless four featuring Alana Sherman, Isla Blake, Kate Haines and Ella Cossill went straight through to the A final after placing second in their heat, as did a women's quad of Stella Clayton-Greene, Olivia Hay, Beckie Leigh and Veronica Wall.
