The Crusaders defeated the Hurricanes 47-14 in the final round of the Super Rugby Pacific regular season at Te Kaha.
Sevu Reece played his 100th match and scored two tries, including the opening try. The win moved the Crusaders into third place on the table heading into the playoffs.
Brad Shields scored for the Hurricanes after Cam Roigard drew in defenders, but the Crusaders scored three unanswered tries before halftime. Noah Hotham, Johnny McNicoll and Christian Lio-Willie all crossed before the break.
Halftime pyrotechnics created smoke haze over the field that disrupted play. The Crusaders apologised on social media, saying "the halftime pyrotechnics didn't quite go to plan, leaving haze over the field longer than we'd hoped".
Replacement hooker Manumaua Letiu and Kyle Preston scored tries in the second half for the Crusaders. Pouri Rakete Stones scored a consolation try for the Hurricanes from close range.
Crusaders coach Rob Penney said "we've got a season to finish off here. That's the focus."
