The All Whites face a winner-takes-all clash with Belgium in their final group match, with only victory securing passage to the round of 32.

New Zealand sits on 1 point from 2 matches after a 2-2 draw with Iran and a 3-1 loss to Egypt. Head coach Darren Bazeley said his team must deliver an error-free performance against the 10th-ranked side in world football.

"We need to be flawless, immaculate in our whole performance throughout the whole game," Bazeley said.

Pattern of early setbacks

New Zealand has taken early leads in both group matches but conceded equalising goals each time, a pattern Bazeley attributed to concentration failures.

"Lapses of concentration" have cost his side, the coach said.

Bazeley and his coaching staff are weighing lineup changes for the Belgium encounter.

Knockout mentality required

The coach framed the Belgium match as knockout football arriving ahead of schedule.

"Win our last game, we qualify. We came for knockout football, and it's come around earlier. This is now knockout football," Bazeley said.

Wing-back Liberato Cacace said nullifying Belgium's main threats would give New Zealand a good chance of victory.

"We've definitely shown this tournament that we can compete with the bigger teams in the World Cup. So what we've got to do is put on a 90-minute performance, and we'll have a chance of winning," Cacace said.

Historic opportunity

New Zealand has not yet secured a win at a senior men's FIFA World Cup. A victory over Belgium would deliver both a first World Cup win and advancement to the knockout rounds.

What comes next

The All Whites must win their final group match to reach the round of 32. A draw or loss eliminates them from the tournament.
