Three bridge repair projects will proceed in the Ōtorohanga region during the second half of 2026, Transport Minister Chris Bishop has announced.
Mangaorongo Bridge on State Highway 3, located 7km north of Ōtorohanga, will be repaired following flood damage earlier this year. Work starts on 29 June with one-lane traffic and stop/go management for approximately 4 weeks. NZTA will also strengthen the riverbank to protect against future floods.
Symes Bridge over the Moakurarua Stream on State Highway 39 will undergo repairs from early July after February storm damage caused erosion beneath the structure. Initial work will take approximately 5 weeks. The bridge deck and beams will then be replaced later in 2026, requiring a 7-week closure to create a wider, safer structure.
