A third staff member from the Pae Ora team at Mt Eden prison is being investigated over an allegation of sexual harassment.

Corrections deputy chief executive Rebecca Powell confirmed the investigation and said the employee is not currently at work. The staff member is part of the prison's health and rehabilitation service, which employs around 50 people at the facility.

Two other senior members of the same team are already under investigation. One was reassigned to duties away from the workplace after a sexual harassment complaint, while the second was suspended following bullying and harassment claims from several internal and external sources.

Corrections commissioned an independent review on sexual harassment in June 2024 to improve workplace safety and culture. The department has accepted and is implementing all recommendations from that review, including releasing an updated Code of Conduct, developing training workshops, and launching an awareness campaign.

Powell offered support to the Mt Eden Pae Ora team, including delivery of training to staff. She said Corrections expected staff to "uphold the standards of behaviour in our Code of Conduct and comply with the law".

The department also conducted checks of staff access to HR records and IT systems after complainants raised concerns about media queries relating to their personal information. Those checks found no evidence that personal information had been inappropriately shared externally.
