Rotorua's new kerbside waste collection system has been delayed to 1 October, three months later than originally planned.
The delay adds $300,000 to the project's capital costs, but the council says the extra expense will be absorbed within the existing contract and will not affect ratepayers. A shortage of bin manufacturing materials linked to the Iran conflict caused the setback.
Waste and climate change manager Craig Goodwin said bins are now in production and are expected to reach households from August. The council switched to New Zealand-owned manufacturer Rotaform as an alternative supplier.
