A bridge over State Highway 1 in Rolleston will enter construction later this month, Transport Minister Chris Bishop has announced.
The structure will pass over both the highway and railway line, connecting residential zones with industrial areas. NZTA has awarded Fulton Hogan the contract to build the project's second stage.
The highway currently carries around 24,000 vehicles daily, with traffic projected to reach 33,000 vehicles per day over the next 20 years. The bridge is scheduled to open by end-2027, with the project's estimated total cost ranging from $180 million to $200 million.
