Racing Minister Winston Peters has called on all parts of New Zealand's racing sector to collaborate in securing the industry's long-term future, following a reform report from the TAB New Zealand Racing Advisory Committee.

Peters' statement follows the Advisory Committee's report, which proposes wide-ranging reforms for the sector. The Committee's report identifies that major industry organisations have not been working in alignment.

"For reform to succeed, it cannot be driven in isolation," Peters said. "It must be built on collaboration, shared understandings, and a commitment from all parts of the industry to move forward together."

The Minister has ruled out immediate large-scale legislation, citing the upcoming General Election. Instead, Peters has instructed the Advisory Committee, TAB NZ, New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing and Harness Racing New Zealand to work together closely and develop a unified pathway forward.

Peters said the industry has mechanisms under existing legislation to advance several of the desired changes. "There is more that can be done within existing settings," he said. "The industry must first demonstrate its ability to act collectively and make progress before seeking further legislative change."
