Police have arrested and charged a 37-year-old man following a violent attack on a passenger aboard a North Shore bus.

The assault took place around 6pm on 21 June and was described by police as unprovoked. The attack continued intermittently over a 9-minute period and was captured on CCTV.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Williams confirmed the footage recorded the assault. The victim needed medical treatment for injuries and was left extremely shaken.

The offender was not located immediately after the incident but was arrested on Thursday. He has been charged with injuring with intent to injure and impeding another person's breathing.

The man is scheduled to appear in North Shore District Court on Friday.
