A 21-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly reversing into an unmarked police vehicle in Auckland early Thursday morning.
Police spotted a Mazda Axela driving without headlights on Victoria Street West around 1.30am. The vehicle travelled westbound on the motorway and stopped at Lincoln Road traffic lights, where it backed into the police car before driving off.
The Mazda continued south toward State Highway 1 before officers deployed road spikes near Drury. The vehicle stopped near Young Crescent and the driver was taken into custody. He faces charges of failing to stop, reckless driving, and failing to comply with prohibition, and was scheduled to appear in Auckland District Court on 26 June 2026.
