Five people were injured in a three-vehicle collision on the Kawarau Bridge near Queenstown on Saturday morning.
Emergency services responded to the crash at approximately 11:45am. One person in serious condition was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital, while another person in serious condition and a third in moderate condition were transported to Lakes District Hospital. Two others with minor injuries were treated at the scene.
A witness described the bridge surface as being like a sheet of ice at the time. The road has since reopened with a 50km/h temporary speed restriction in place. The Serious Crash Unit was notified.
