Police arrested a man following a pursuit that spanned Auckland during Tuesday afternoon rush hour.
The chase began after 4pm when a Subaru failed to stop for police in Mt Wellington. The driver travelled through multiple areas including the Southern Motorway and Newmarket, where the vehicle went onto the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing other vehicles and pedestrians. Ground units and the Eagle helicopter tracked the vehicle throughout the pursuit.
The Subaru struck several vehicles at the Newton Road onramp to the North-Western Motorway before coming to a halt at Te Atatū Road after sustaining damage. A 54-year-old man was arrested and Senior Sergeant Mike Wickman said charges would be laid.
