Defence Minister Chris Penk will travel to Turkey to attend the NATO Summit, departing on 5 July and returning on 10 July.
New Zealand is attending as part of the Indo-Pacific Four grouping, alongside Australia, the Republic of Korea and Japan. Penk will hold meetings with defence ministers and international partners during the summit.
The minister will participate in the NATO Defence Industry Forum, where New Zealand defence companies will also be represented.
Penk said the visit provides an opportunity to discuss global security issues and strengthen New Zealand's relationship with like-minded countries. "I am looking forward to engaging with partners to share perspectives on the geostrategic environment and to discuss how we can further bolster our collective security, fundamental to safeguarding our communities and prosperity," he said.
New Zealand is focusing on building a more combat-capable and interoperable Defence Force.
