Budget 2026 allocates $48 million over four years to support Māori broadcasting, part of a package of investments in Māori language and cultural capability announced today.

Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka said the funding would help Māori media organisations adapt to a changing digital environment, commission new te reo Māori content, develop talent and strengthen capability.

A further $10 million in reprioritised funding will go to Te Māori Tū, a programme supporting Māori cultural and creative capability internationally. The programme builds on the legacy of the Te Māori exhibition and is administered by Te Māori Manaaki Taonga Trust.

The Budget also includes investments in schools to support Māori medium teaching.
