Africa CDC and WHO have unveiled a joint response strategy to contain the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak, targeting $518 million in funding over six months.

The plan runs from June to November 2026 and covers activities including disease surveillance, laboratory testing, infection control, clinical care and community engagement. It supports national plans in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, with preparedness measures being strengthened in 10 priority countries.

No licensed vaccines or treatments exist for this Ebola species. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said containing the outbreak "depends on political commitment, sustained financing, and the trust and engagement of communities".
